We are a truly traditional country ale house, set in the beautiful Luddesdowne Valley.

First opened in 1713, we are a pub in the true sense of the word based around good beer, a convivial atmosphere and friendly conversation.

Free from children, piped muzak and gaming machines, we have replaced them with an adult environment, conversation and traditional pub games - Bar Billiards, Crib, Dominoes, Darts, Shove Ha'penny, Shut the box - are all here for your enjoyment. If you are unsure how to play there is always someone here to help you.

We don't have Wi-Fi and mobile phones are not encouraged. We believe a pub is for social interaction between people face to face.

A pub built in the 1700's was never built wth catering to todays expectations in mind.

Space limitations and meagre facilities mean we will never be a restaurant or "Gastropub". For this reason we do not offer formal catering nor a menu, However we offer a range of traditional bar nibbles

Our oustanding range of expertly kept Real Ales and German lagers served in relaxing ,convivial surroundings is what we're really all about.

We are home to numerous car and motorcycle clubs as well as being  home to Luddesdowne Cricket Club.

After 35 years here, a combination of age and associated declining health means that we have regretfully decided to reduce our hours to:

Mon -Thursday 4pm to 11.00pm

(including Bank Holidays)

Friday - Saturday 12 noon - 11.00pm

Sunday 12 noon -10.30pm

We hope you understand this move, as it will allow us to continue to serve you for (hopefully!) many years to come and preserve a true English pub for the pleasure of future generations.
